Get to know your Counsellor

The Importance of the working relationship

The relationship between the client and Counsellor is quite unique if you compare this to the work of other health professionals because we don't "treat you" or do "something to you". You bring your whole self as the client and I bring my whole self  as a counsellor along with my training and experience. What is really important is that I see you as the expert on yourself and I offer a trained, confidential empathic environment to explore what is happening for you. I go into this in more detail about what some of this looks like on "Services offered". As we will be exploring difficult memorries, experiences, feelings and thoughts, it is important you find a counsellor you feel you can trust and feel understood by. One that you feel could help you and will be beside you every step of the way. That is why on this page, I tell you a little about myself and my training but feel free to ask more questions if you feel you need to. Counselling and discussing painful thoughts and feelings is challenging and you as a client need to find the right person to support you.

Introduction

A little about me...

When choosing a Counsellor to share what you might be struggling with, it is important to know whether we are a good fit so I want to introduce myself. I am Samantha. I love connecting with others, learning and encompassing the power of nature into daily life. I am highly empathic, full of inquisitiveness and I have a drive to grow personally and professionally.

I am passionate about humans connecting to humans and creating a fairer society and believe everyone should be able to access support for their mental health in they same way they do their physical. I understand therapy is expensive and I split my time between charity work in a WomenCentre and my practice.

I am a mum, a wife and a women who loves to be outside, lifting, moving, reflecting and learning.

My training and experience

Education and work

I completed a BSc Honours in Psychology and then moved into Counselling by completing a Post Graduate Certificate in Interpersonal and Counselling Skills followed by a Masters in Counselling. My research explored experiences of counselling for clients who had lived through childhood trauma from a client perspective.

I am trained to work face to face, online and by phone as well as outside in nature. I am passionate about accessibility and would encourage you to reach out to me if you require reasonable adjustments to attend Counselling with me.

I have a vast array of experience working with all types of individuals in different environments. This includes childhood trauma, domestic abuse, burn recovery, baby loss, neurodiversity, depression and anxiety, emotional regulation and holistic health. Holistic health includes aspects of an individuals relationship to health, food and their body. I am currently training as a Personal Trainer and hope to offer Personal training and Counselling as a package in the future.

Prior to training as a Counsellor, I have worked in Young Offenders in healthcare, psychiatric support work, education as a sign language support and as sighted assistant supporting an adult in their profession. All these roles focussed on inclusion and reducing barriers to individuals who are often mistreated and left isolated.

I am happy to chat through any questions you have so that you can decide whether my service or the way I work suits your requirements.
